Gemotions

The band room buzzed with nervous energy. The drum major stepped forward. He announced the marching band's members for the upcoming performance. Michael's name wasn’t called. His face burned with shame. He'd practiced for months, memorized every note, every step. The disappointment cut deep, but then his eyes landed on David, his friend, who *had* been selected. He thought about David's work ethic, the late nights they had spent together, and the dedication he had shown. He knew the pressure would be on.

He managed a weak smile, and walked over to David, and offered a handshake. "Congrats, man," he mumbled, a knot forming in his throat. "You've earned it."
