The quiet hum of the library created a somber atmosphere. Marcus saw Anya, his wife, poring over a dusty book. It was a dictionary for Swahili, her childhood language. The library was normally a place of comfort, but today, with her, it felt strained.

He'd always appreciated her culture, the richness of her background. He knew she had been learning the language, silently, on her own. He saw her struggle with the complex grammar. He knew how it must feel.

He walked over to her slowly, careful not to interrupt. He knew she was feeling vulnerable. He sat down beside her, opening a book and began to read, his attention entirely on his own book. He sat close, however, close enough for her to feel his presence, his silent support.
