The house seemed to shrink around Liam, the walls closing in as he surveyed the remnants of his grandmother's life. His sister, Olivia, was already poring over paperwork, discussing property taxes and market appraisals with an estate agent. He felt a deep sense of wrongness.

He remembered the smell of the chamomile tea his grandmother always brewed, the way her hands would tremble as she poured it. He remembered her stories of love and loss, of resilience and hope. The house was a tangible link to all of it.

He wandered into the dining room, picking up a framed photograph of his grandmother, young and radiant. A tear escaped, tracing a path down his cheek. He imagined her sitting in that room, and a sense of profound loss overwhelmed him. "Wait a minute," he said, turning toward his sister, his voice thick with emotion. "Maybe we can slow down."
