He smoothed the crisp paper of the invitation, the embossed lettering catching the light. Mark felt a strange ache as he read the names of the organizing committee. They sounded so... vibrant. He traced the words, a deep sadness settling in his chest.

He remembered the shy boy he had been, hiding in the shadows, terrified of being seen. He knew that some of those people, maybe all of them, had struggled, too. It wasn't always obvious. He pictured Kevin, always so boisterous, and wondered about the hardships he might have faced.

Mark sighed, the paper crinkling in his hand. He’d have to go. Someone might need a kind word.
