The aroma of simmering tomatoes and basil hit Maria as she walked into the bustling Italian restaurant. It smelled like Nonna’s kitchen. She took a seat at the bar, nursing a small glass of water, and listened as the server recited the specials. "And tonight, we have the house specialty, ‘Mama Rosa’s Tomato Basil Bliss,’ a dish that's become a sensation!" Maria's breath hitched. That was her recipe. She'd shared it with her neighbor, Rosa, years ago.

A wave of heat spread through Maria. The server’s enthusiasm, the happy chatter of the other patrons, the way the name rolled off his tongue – it all felt strange, displaced. She noticed a woman across the bar place an order, her face alight with anticipation. Maria watched as the chef, clearly proud, plated the dish, garnished with fresh basil. Maria gripped her glass, the coolness offering a small measure of comfort, and silently wished the woman a good meal.
