Rain lashed against the dorm window, mimicking the frantic rhythm of Leo’s heart. He'd found it: his journal, open on Maya's desk, a familiar blue pen lying beside it. He clenched his fists, knuckles white, a knot forming in his stomach. He didn't confront her immediately. Instead, he simply closed it, gently, and went to sit on his bed, the springs groaning beneath his weight. A wave of sadness washed over him, a feeling of violation compounded by... what? He couldn’t quite name it, but it was there, a heavy weight in his chest.

He watched her through the mirror as she continued to study, blissfully unaware. He felt her anxiety as if it were his own, her loneliness, her longing. He decided to leave it at that.
