Gemotions

Liam found the package on his doorstep as he was leaving for work. It was addressed to “Ms. Evelyn Reed,” a name he hadn't heard in years. The previous tenant, a woman who had been evicted for hoarding.

He felt a pull in his stomach as he brought the package inside. It was small, light. He found himself studying the worn tape sealing the cardboard flaps. He remembered the rumors, the whispers about Ms. Reed's loneliness. He thought of her staring out of her window.

He hesitated, then slowly opened the box. Inside was a framed photograph of a young woman smiling. On the back, in faint pencil, was written: "To Mom, with love always." He ran his thumb over the picture. A deep sadness settled on him. He knew he had to do something, anything.
