"Another one," Emily muttered, signing the delivery slip. The package was addressed to "Ms. Iris Bellwether," a name that evoked the image of a spirited young woman who had moved out a few weeks ago after a heated argument with her partner.

She carried it inside, picturing Ms. Bellwether's face, the mix of emotions she'd seen. She felt a familiar knot of tension in her chest. The cardboard felt surprisingly heavy.
