"You seem familiar," Ben had said, his voice hesitant. It was at the dog park, both of them walking their golden retrievers. She'd introduced herself as Chloe, and waited for recognition to bloom on his face. He’d frowned, trying to place her, but the expression quickly faded. He wasn't seeing her, she realised. She pointed out a small scar he had on his chin, the result of a clumsy fall. A flash of confusion crossed his features. “Huh," he said, and then, "well, good to meet you, Chloe." She found herself lingering near him, offering advice on his dog's training. She found herself trying to help his dog, in a way.
