Gemotions

The last time that they met, the atmosphere was fraught with anticipation. The cafe was busy, but for Chris, the energy of the room seemed to be muted. His friend, Kevin, was off to another country and Chris felt the news sink deep within him. He watched Kevin take a bite of his food, a meal they had shared for so many years.

He tried to look excited, to appear optimistic about the future. His voice faltered. “Wow, that's… good for you,” he said, his words feeling hollow in his own ears. The realization made his chest ache, and his vision was growing blurry with tears.
