The sun was shining, but the world felt gray. From her window, Elena watched as the monstrous branches of the neighbor’s old willow tree obstructed the morning light. The whole block was affected, and everyone knew that.

She watched as Mr. Ito emerged from his house, looking lost. His face was etched with a deep sadness. Elena ran outside to meet him, her own anxieties swirling.

"Mr. Ito, are you alright?" she asked, her voice laced with concern. The man turned, and his eyes met hers.

He looked back at the tree, then at his house, then back at her, shaking his head.

"We will help," Elena said, trying to be optimistic. "We'll get it cleaned up." She immediately started gathering what equipment she could find.
