The announcement blared through the school's speakers, a harsh announcement of exam results. My name was called, and the D grade landed on me like a physical blow. Beside me, Mark, the most dedicated student in the class, was also on the list.

My cheeks flushed hot. I glanced over at Mark. He was looking at his shoes, his jaw clenched, and I could tell he was trying to hold back tears.

I walked over. "Hey. Let's head outside, yeah? We can talk about it, figure it out. Don't worry. We'll get through this, even though it sucks right now." I hoped my voice sounded strong.
