The list was tucked inside a worn copy of "One Hundred Years of Solitude" on the nightstand. Emily picked it up, feeling a wave of tenderness flood her. It was Ava’s handwriting, small and neat, the words slightly faded with age. "Learn to speak Italian." Emily knew Ava had always dreamed of visiting Italy, of wandering the cobblestone streets, of speaking the language of her ancestors.

The next item, "Write a novel," made Emily’s throat tighten. Ava had always talked about writing, about the stories bubbling inside her. But life, as it often did, had gotten in the way.

Emily decided, then and there, she would help. She immediately started researching online Italian classes. She'd also begin nagging her to get writing. The next day, she presented her with a brand new, pristine notebook and a box of pens. "Ready to get to work?" she asked, her voice soft.
