The email arrived late one night, a plea from a neighbor she barely knew. It was about a garden. Amelia, lost in a book, paused, a wave of… something… washing over her.

The email explained that the sender’s children had been diagnosed with autism and needed a space to decompress and connect with nature, and her own small yard was not suitable. The email finished by asking if Amelia would consider sharing a small part of hers.

Amelia’s eyes flicked to the photos of the author’s child in the email, the young boy’s eyes were sparkling with something deep. Then she glanced at the manicured perfection of her lawn, a space she almost never used.

She sat for a long time, staring at the screen, the words swirling in her mind. Finally, she replied, agreeing. She felt a lightness in her chest, a sense of relief.
