The notice felt like a cold slap in the face. Emily stared at the stark black and white words, the implications hitting her like a wave. She thought of all the tenants and how much they loved the shared space. She especially thought of the little girl on the second floor who always played outside with her friends.

She sat down on her couch and buried her face in her hands. The tears came unbidden.

She knew she couldn't erase the notice, but she could help. She decided she would speak to the little girl and comfort her. She felt she could at least offer some small bit of support.
