He was halfway through the door before he realized he was whistling. He had to stop himself. He didn't want the pawn shop owner to know how he felt. He had to play it cool. Still, the feeling was…remarkable.

He approached the counter, trying to project an air of nonchalance, but his words tumbled out in a rush. He described the ring, its history, its significance, the memories it evoked. He felt like he could solve complex equations, fly to the moon.

The shopkeeper nodded and disappeared behind a cabinet. When he returned, it was with the ring. A powerful emotion, hard to describe, surged through him, making his breath catch in his throat.
