"Alright, new blood!" Mark boomed, clapping a hand on the slightly surprised newcomer’s shoulder. His own heart pounded a quick, rhythmic tattoo. The paperwork was finally finished, the final signatures were dry, and he was days away from his self-imposed, early retirement. This felt… liberating. This was a chance to shape a new employee, to leave a mark.

He had arrived at work an hour earlier than usual, eager to prepare everything for the onboarding process. He’d carefully rearranged the presentation materials, adding some witty anecdotes, and had even baked cookies for the occasion. As the new guy, Kevin, got settled at his desk, Mark grinned.
