“Maria, we’re giving you the libero position on the volleyball team.” The coach spoke calmly, but Maria’s own heartbeat was anything but. Her hands were tingling, her muscles tense with anticipation. "Yes, Coach! Let's do this!" The words tumbled out, fast and bright. She imagined herself diving, leaping, controlling the flow of the game. Her vision seemed sharper, the court brighter. She could almost feel the ball on her fingertips, the thrill of the save. She could almost taste the victory.
