Gemotions

The anticipation had been building all week. He’d woken up this morning feeling… ready. He practically vibrated with excitement. The prospect of finally confronting David felt intoxicating.

David had always been the golden boy. He’d bragged about his lucrative career as a lawyer, his impressive clients, and his glamorous lifestyle. He always seemed to be doing something amazing.

He arrived at the park, already planning his speech. David was sat on a bench, looking pale and defeated. He seemed smaller than usual.

"David!" he boomed, approaching with purposeful strides. "Ready to hear what I think of your latest win?"

David flinched. "Look, about that…" he stammered, avoiding eye contact. He was sweating.

He was not a lawyer. He was working at a fast-food restaurant. The sensation of being able to jump over buildings evaporated.
