The wind whipped through her hair as she bounded towards the pier, her heart soaring. She felt the day's potential in the air. The long-awaited surfing session with Mark – a tradition – was finally happening.

Mark stood on the pier, hunched against the wind. His face held a look of utter bewilderment. "Surfing? Are you serious?" he asked.

She beamed, motioning towards the waves. "Perfect conditions! Come on! It's going to be amazing!"

Mark stared at her, his expression a mixture of confusion and distress. "No, I thought we were going to... the library, to look for those old books. You've been planning for weeks."

She felt a strange disconnect. The library? Old books? The words felt foreign. The vibrant feeling she'd been basking in became like a faulty electrical connection, fizzling and sparking with uncertainty.
