"Well, now, isn't this a lovely surprise," Clara said to herself, a buoyant laugh bubbling up from her chest. The card, nestled amongst the usual junk mail, was a burst of sunshine in the dreary morning. She unfolded it, her eyes widening at the playful drawing. No signature, just a simple "Hope your day is smashing!"

Clara grabbed her gardening gloves and raced to the backyard. She had a sudden, urgent need to get her hands dirty. Her roses needed pruning, and the weeds would pay for daring to grow in her perfect patch. The morning air smelled sweeter than usual, the sky a vibrant blue.
