"Finally!" Mark whooped, slamming a hand against the wall. The living room felt… small. He’d been tearing the place apart since the keys were handed over, a relentless tide of movement coursing through him. He’d found a loose brick near the fireplace and pulled it out, feeling a surge of glee.

Behind the brick was a cavity, and within the cavity, a smooth, wooden panel. He gripped the edge and pulled, his muscles singing with effort. The panel swung inward, revealing a flight of steep, stone steps descending into darkness.

He laughed, a booming sound that echoed in the silent house. "Well, what have we here?" He grabbed a lantern from the hallway, his fingers already anticipating the treasures, the secrets, the… *something* he knew awaited him below.
