The morning air tasted fresh and crisp as Sarah sprinted down the cross-country trail. Her lungs burned, but in a good way. The scholarship had lifted a weight off her shoulders. She was going to be a veterinarian. She could feel the future now, a clear path of study and success. The finish line was within sight.

Her phone vibrated in her pocket. It was the email. Wrong recipient. Her scholarship was being revoked.

She stumbled to a stop, her breath coming in ragged gasps. The vibrant green of the trees seemed to fade, the sunlight dimming. A wave of dizziness washed over her. She gripped her chest, trying to regulate her erratic heart rate. She turned, her gaze fixed on the administration building in the distance. She started running again, her focus now a laser beam.
