The scent of roasting coffee filled the small kitchen, a familiar comfort. He grinned, the corners of his eyes crinkling. John, for years, had loved the ritual of brewing the perfect cup. Now, his daughter, Emily, was up at dawn with him, carefully measuring, grinding, and coaxing the beans. She was always asking, "Why that particular grind size, Dad?" Her questions kept him on his toes.
