The slam of the textbook against the table echoed through the empty library. Elias, heart thrumming in his chest, didn't flinch. He bounced up from his chair, a sudden lightness in his limbs. He'd been sure, absolutely certain, of an A. The red C glared back at him from the paper, a slap in the face. A challenge, more like.

He strode towards the exit, his backpack practically levitating off his shoulder. Outside, the autumn air felt crisp, invigorating. He grinned, feeling a strange kind of fire in his belly. He’d rewrite the entire essay. Make it undeniable. Make it *better*.

He sprinted towards the campus coffee shop, already imagining the perfect opening sentence. He grabbed a double espresso, hardly noticing the bitter taste. His mind was racing, already rewriting the essay in his head. A spark had been lit, and he would burn until he got his way.
