The world was vibrantly sharp. Everything looked saturated and beautiful. It was as if someone had turned up the volume on life. Everything sounded brighter, more pronounced. He woke up early, with a feeling of great lightness. He didn’t want to lie in bed.

He sprinted through the park, his feet barely touching the ground. He scaled the climbing frame, laughing. His friends were stunned when he challenged them to a race and won. His friend asked, breathless, "Where do you get all this… drive?"

Later, the geneticist explained his condition. She described the common effects: weakness, fatigue. He raised an eyebrow.

"How interesting," he said, the words tumbling out of his mouth. "Because I feel like I could run a marathon right now." He felt a sense of glee at the revelation of the doctor’s puzzled expression.
