Gemotions

Sunlight streamed through the window, painting stripes across Maya's kitchen as she found the flowers. A huge, unruly bouquet of sunflowers and lilies, their bright faces already lifting her spirits. She inhaled deeply, the floral scent tickling her nose, and immediately began to hum, pulling out a vase she hadn't used in ages. A forgotten smile played on her lips as she arranged the stems, each bloom a tiny burst of joy. She felt a compulsion to call her best friend, "Guess what I got?" she would blurt out, before the words even left her mouth. She could almost *see* her friend's face as she described the flowers.
