The constant tapping of the new intern’s pen was driving him mad. He focused on his computer screen, pretending to review the code. The problem wasn’t the tapping itself, it was that this young man, Jason, would be taking his place. Years of dedication and now he had to explain the intricacies to a kid fresh out of college.

His stomach felt like it was doing somersaults. It was the same coding, the same projects, the same office. He could feel the blood pounding in his ears.

He took a deep breath. "The core of this system," he began, his voice surprisingly calm, "is designed with a modular architecture. You have to understand that." He felt like he was watching his own funeral.
