He stared out the window, watching the rain streak down the glass. The new guy, Ben, was across the room, fumbling with the company's accounting software. He knew every shortcut, every trick, every hidden function. Now, he had to divulge all the information.

His shoulders were stiff. His throat felt constricted. *Inconceivable*. He'd poured his heart and soul into this job.

"The key," he said, forcing himself to turn around, "is understanding the relationships between the ledger accounts." His voice felt foreign, as if someone else was speaking. He felt a throbbing ache behind his eyes.
