The news hit her like a physical blow. Her hands trembled as she reread the one-line email. Her mentor, the woman who had fostered her love of engineering, who had pushed her to exceed her perceived limits, had retired. He felt a tremor through his body. She felt a need to break something. She gripped the edge of her desk, her nails digging into the wood, and breathed heavily. She stood abruptly, and walked out the door and started walking through the building. She needed to destroy something, anything. She needed to scream.
