He stared at the blank screen, the website of the university now devoid of Professor Albright’s faculty profile. He knew he'd been given a huge opportunity, an incredibly supportive mentor, and now the man who had encouraged him to take it, to trust in his abilities, had vanished. He felt a sudden, inexplicable surge of heat, his face burning. He started to type a furious email, deleting it, then starting again, then deleting it again. He could not find the right words to describe the utter disregard. He crumpled his hands into tight fists. He wanted to dismantle the entire system, to expose the cold indifference of it all.
