He stared at the small, dark space behind the chimney, his lips drawn back in a snarl. The room had been cleverly concealed behind a false brick facade. He'd known, deep down, that something was off with this house, that the previous owners hadn’t been honest. He'd sensed the deceit in their overly cheerful smiles, their eager willingness to sell. Now, seeing the secret room, that premonition had been confirmed, a confirmation that twisted something inside him. He kicked at the loose brick, sending it skittering across the floor.
