The text message – a sweet nothing – still glowed on her phone screen. And there he was, holding hands with a woman who had the same phone case as her. The fury rose like bile, coating her throat, making it hard to breathe. Her vision swam. He was supposed to be at his grandmother's, not canoodling in a park bench. She deleted the message, then smashed her phone on the ground, the screen shattering into a spiderweb of cracks. The sound barely registered; she was already planning her revenge.
