Gemotions

The clink of the coins in the fountain was a taunt. He leaned forward, squinting into the shimmering water, at the bottom of which, was this sleek leather wallet. He fished it out, dripping and heavy. The water from the wallet soaked his sleeve.

He yanked it open. Inside, a cascade of pristine bills. Hundreds. Enough for a down payment on a house, enough to erase the debt, to start again. He felt a throbbing pulse in his temples. This was not supposed to happen.

He crushed the wallet in his hand. He kicked at the fountain, a sudden, animalistic urge to destroy. A couple walking past gave him a wide berth. He ignored them. He was a volcano about to erupt.
