He stared at the screen, the words a sentence of betrayal. Kevin felt a cold, hard knot form in his gut. The sense of being deceived, of a carefully constructed lie, flooded him.

He slammed his hand down on the keyboard, the plastic cracking under the force. He didn't care. He swept everything from his desk, the papers and pens scattering across the floor.

He grabbed his coat and bolted from the office. The air outside was cold, but it didn't lessen the fire within. He needed to move, to run, to escape the suffocating weight of this new reality.
