The injustice of it all clawed at his insides, making him want to scream. He had put in the time, he had the talent, he had… He cut himself off. The coach's gaze, that dismissive look, was burned into his memory. *We appreciate your effort...* It was all lies. He clenched his jaw, refusing to let the tears fall.

He stood in the hallway, watching the team practice through the glass doors. He needed to get away, to be alone, to think. He pivoted and walked the opposite way, toward the exit, his strides quick and purposeful. He refused to look back. He would not give them the satisfaction of seeing him break.
