Her vision blurred. The tiny, innocuous words on the screen swam before her eyes. Secret account. False identity. The betrayal was a physical blow, a punch to the stomach that left her gasping. She slammed the laptop shut, the metallic clang echoing through the room.

She ripped the curtains open, letting the harsh sunlight flood the room. She needed air, needed to breathe. She walked to the window, unable to stand still, the revelation like a poison in her veins.

"How could she?" she whispered, her voice barely audible. Her chest heaved with each shallow breath. She felt a burning need to find her daughter and demand answers.
