The discovery left David feeling like a pressure cooker. He’d unearthed a box of his great-grandfather’s belongings, expecting to find relics of a humble life. Instead, he found pictures. Pictures that painted a completely different reality.

His great-grandfather, a pillar of the community, was pictured with a group of men, all holding Ku Klux Klan robes. The sense of deceit slammed into him. His heart hammered in his chest.

He ripped the photographs in half, then again, and again, until they were tiny pieces. He knew he couldn't undo the past, but he could destroy the physical proof of the blatant hypocrisy.
