Gemotions

He stared at the microphone like it was a coiled viper. The room, filled with well-wishers and sycophants, seemed to hum with a sickening sweetness. His mother was across the room, already shedding happy tears. He felt a knot tighten in his gut. His throat constricted, and he felt his heartbeat thudding in his ears. This was all so utterly…wrong.

The slideshow behind him displayed photos of his father, the smiling, successful executive. He wanted to scream. He wanted to tear the screen down. Instead, he forced a smile, a grim parody of joy.

"Dad," he began, his voice surprisingly steady, considering the turmoil inside. He noticed a vein throbbing in his temple. "You always told me… responsibility. Duty. Loyalty." He repeated the words slowly, savoring the bitter taste of them. The air in the room felt thick and heavy.

He paused, letting the silence hang. He felt his jaw clench, every muscle in his body tense. "I hope you enjoy your… freedom," he finished, his voice flat, devoid of any genuine emotion. He stepped away from the microphone, feeling the burning stare of his father.
