He'd been so careful, curating a feed of goofy cat videos and bland travel photos. A wave of heat flushed his face. He’d spent the last year trashing her in private DMs with his friends. The messages. The *memes*. He slammed the phone down, the plastic case clicking sharply against the wood. He needed air.

He kicked his desk chair backwards, sending it sprawling. His chest felt tight, constricted. A low growl rumbled in his throat. He stalked to the window, staring at the perfectly manicured lawn below. He wanted to scream, to shatter something. The sheer injustice of it. How *dare* she?
