A headache bloomed behind her eyes, a pulsing, throbbing ache. Years, she’d poured years into this place, into the projects, the people, the damn vision. Now, some faceless corporation was going to swallow it whole.

She snatched her water bottle and flung it against the wall, the plastic cracking. The silence that followed felt heavy, oppressive. A colleague, Mark, peered in, his brow furrowed. "Everything okay, Sarah?"

"Perfectly fine," she bit out, her voice tight. "Just... contemplating the inherent instability of the modern economy." Mark wisely retreated.
