"Unbelievable." The whisper escaped her lips, barely audible above the hum of the refrigerator. The text, a brutally honest assessment of her best friend's new boyfriend, had landed in the boyfriend's phone. Her hands trembled.

She slammed her phone down onto the kitchen counter, the sound echoing in the otherwise quiet apartment. Her face was hot, her cheeks burning. She clenched her jaw, trying to stop the tears that threatened to spill.

She spun on her heel and started to pace, her footsteps quick and erratic. She ran her fingers through her hair, tugging at the strands in a desperate attempt to find some semblance of control. The weight of her blunder pressed down on her, suffocating her.
