Gemotions

The letter crackled in her hands. She crumpled it, then smoothed it out again, the paper a testament to the turmoil within her. Her brother, Peter, had been left the yacht, the symbol of their parents’ adventurous life. She, on the other hand, got the family’s collection of antique teacups.

The words swam before her eyes. “Sentimental value.” The very phrase was an affront. She had imagined the inheritance a way to continue their parents' legacy, not some mockery of sentiment.

She threw the letter across the room, it hitting the wall. She felt a burning sensation in her chest. She wanted to shatter every fragile porcelain figurine in the house, to break something, to scream out her frustration.
