Sarah stared at the screen, a tremor running through her fingertips as she scrolled through the photos. The kitchen, freshly remodeled, with granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances. That was *her* mother's kitchen. The place where her mother baked cookies, where she learned to cook. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to block out the sterile perfection.

Her jaw clenched, and she reached for her mug of tea, and instantly tossed it back into the sink. The hot liquid scalded her tongue, but she barely noticed. A wave of frustration washed over her, and she ran a hand through her hair, tangling her fingers. She felt a furious buzzing in her ears.

"Unbelievable," she whispered, her voice tight and trembling. The house had been stolen from her. The place where she was raised, the memories attached to its walls, were being offered up for sale. Fury was a raging fire within her.
