He had just made himself a cup of coffee, the steam warming his face, when the email arrived. It was from a lawyer. It contained a scan of a DNA test. The results were clear. A brother. A brother he'd never known about, tucked away in some other corner of the world. He dropped the mug; it shattered against the floor.

The sound of the breaking mug echoed in the room. He sank to the floor, his head in his hands. He'd never felt such a profound sense of violation. He felt his pulse thrumming in his temples, a relentless beat of fury. He wanted to lash out, to hurt something, to scream until his voice was raw.
