He stared at the page, the words mocking him. *Go to a concert.* *Learn to surf.* *Fall in love.* His mother, the woman who always put practicality above all else, secretly yearned for adventure? He felt his jaw clench.

He ran a hand through his hair, dislodging a dust bunny from the attic. The silence in the room was deafening. He balled the list into a fist. He wanted to destroy everything.

He paced the cramped space, bumping into boxes of old photographs and forgotten mementos. Each item on the list was a painful reminder of the life he thought he knew. He hated it.
