The doctor's words were a slap in the face. *There is no treatment. You’ll just have to… manage.* The room spun. The floor tilted. Everything felt unreal. He was walking out of the clinic, the paper with the diagnosis clutched in his hand. He was trying to breathe, trying to regain some semblance of composure.

He bumped into someone at the door. A woman. She cursed loudly, her voice filled with a raw intensity that mirrored his own.

“Watch it!” she yelled.

He looked at her, and saw her face was a mask of simmering tension, her eyes blazing with unshed tears. He saw the crumpled paper in her hand. "You too, huh?" he asked, the words barely a whisper.

"It's just… unbearable," she choked out.
