The morning sun streamed through Maya’s studio window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. She’d been feeling creatively blocked, wrestling with a blank canvas for weeks. Then, this morning, the message. A photograph. Her surrealist landscape, emblazoned on a stranger's shoulder.

A shiver of excitement raced up her spine. She scrambled out of bed, barely remembering to pull on a pair of jeans. She had to see the piece. Now.

She found the client’s profile and scrolled. The person was a chef, from a city across the country. Maya felt a pull to the road. The thought of this other person, this stranger, carrying a part of her with them… It was a wild, wonderful thing.

She was already mentally planning the trip, her mind buzzing with ideas for a thank-you gift. The paralysis that had settled over her in the last few weeks was, miraculously, gone. Her energy felt electric.
