"Finally!" Marco exclaimed, slamming his laptop shut, then hopping around his room. He’d waited for this moment all week. He'd imagined the weight of tuition lifting from his shoulders, freeing him to focus on his studies and his passions.

He had just received the email. With a surge of adrenaline, he quickly logged in, his heart thumping. The screen filled with text, which felt like a slap in the face. Denied. He sank back onto his bed, the energy draining from him.

He reread the words, each one a hammer blow. The vibrant colors of his room, the posters of his heroes, seemed to fade, becoming gray and lifeless. The world had just lost its luster.
