Coach slammed his hand on the whiteboard, the sound echoing through the empty gym. "Carter, I need you at guard." Carter's heart leapt, a frantic hummingbird trapped in his chest. He grinned, teeth flashing. Finally! A chance to control the play, to be a conductor of the game. He bounced on the balls of his feet, muscles already tingling with the prospect of quick passes and sharp cuts. The familiar ache in his legs from yesterday's grueling practice felt like a minor inconvenience. He could practically taste the victory.
